It’s about you, the people you meet, and the authentic and genuine way you want to relate to them. It’s about your lives and whatever honesty, sincerity, and truth comes from that.
Either you or Erin once said on whore rapport that everything you talked about on that episode was about living authentically. To me that means being as honest as you can handle, which is something Chris said on a thread about non monogamy. I like to think my mind is just chalk full of wisdom from yours, bursting at the seams.
I do see your podcast as a story about living as authentically as possible in these troubled times. Few podcasters make it such a priority to do this, but you do it very well Anya.
It's an outlet for your creative expression. Your journal spoken aloud. It ponders ideas, mulls them over, and bravely shares them with others who benefit from it.
How to find a path-with-heart into the future, even if that future sometimes looks dark and frightening. And how to bring your friends with you or find them on the way.
A salutary window, wide open to singular and new ways of grasping our chaotic reality. A healthy voice, both vulnerable and strong, that differs significantly from the cacophony of online bs.
I think it’s about personal mythology and, it is offering conversations with the people who are trying to create their own myths in the different areas of life related to being human.
I feel ya! Same here. I usually say that mine is about "another way to work with the material that I write about" ... which is some ever-changing and over-long list of things like "love, masculinity, gender, identity, intuition, depression, addiction, adventure, and more..." or just "things that interest me, based on my experience as a man" (or, just as a person) -- but all of that often sounds too damn self-referential, and too general. Another way I think about art is as an attempt to transmit an image of your soul to others... and/or to work your own shit out, in public. I also like to say that I'm "here to tell the truth," as I feel that you are also very much here to do. I mean, of course you are—but that certainly does come through. Telling your truth, that is. Being an example of honesty and transparency, and yes, as others have said, authenticity and reflection and openness. I wish it were easier to sum things up in a neat little sentence—that's one thing that kept me from 'writing a book' for a while, and so instead I just turned to putting everything up on Substack myself!
Glad to know I am not the only one who struggles with this! I suppose the whole idea of an elevator pitch is so antithetical to what our projects are about, that it makes it difficult to try and fit them into a neat, "branded" box. We can't describe something that's nuanced and complex in simple, black and white language. An eternal conundrum that I suppose I am happy to continue grappling with for the sake of authenticity.

Helping (young) people live as authentically as possible in troubled times.
Yes, I think you nailed it.
Thank you for your kind words and reflections. <3
The type of podcast that has you feeling blissfully anxious as you pick up a cigarette involuntarily.
Ha!

Exploring the things we weren't exposed to. A journey toward realization that we get to decide what we will be exposed to going forward

It's a place for ideas away from the mainstream. It's an opportunity to be exposed to new perspectives.

In-devoting conversations on very nuanced topics.
"Finding nuance in divisive issues". Love that.
Well I'm glad I'm not the only one who has a problem describing the podcast!
Also very glad you like the solo bits with music... those are some of my favorite parts as well.
I guess my next post needs to be "Who is Anya anyway?!"
