William Keepin and Cynthia Brix are co-founders of Gender Equity and Reconciliation International. William, a climate scientist and physicist who also trained in clinical psychology with Stanislov Grof began GERI thirty years ago under the name “Gender and Ecology” in an effort to expose and heal the hypocrisies of working to end the exploitation of Mother Earth without simultaneously addressing the exploitation of women and the feminine. Over the years, GERI has evolved into an international program that brings people together from all walks of life to resolve the gender divide through honest and compassionate discourse, somatic work, and mindfulness practices. GERI prioritizes cross-cultural perspectives, and is inclusive of all gender identities, sexual identities and welcomes people of all ages and spiritual beliefs. Their book,
Hey Anya ! It’s so cool to hear your voice again. Cynthia and William are so sweet, I really enjoyed the vibe throughout your conversation. I guess it’s never easy to speak with a duo, but you did it brilliantly and it seemed to me that all of you had a great time.
Gender reconciliation… Boy, it’s a long road.
But if we just have one meaningful path to follow during our disruptive incarnation maybe it’s this one.
It’s so disturbing that, as a society and as individuals we’re still dealing with some “karmic debts” that are super old.
When William told the story of the completely fucked up root of slavery/prostitution/patriachy (when all the men are killed what do we do with the “extra” women and children ?) I was just wondering : WHY are we not told this at school ???
Is it so difficult to share this simple and horrific and super-crucial information ?
Well, I guess I’m feeling the disruptiveness in my bones/guts but the most important thing is : what do we do next ?
Brave souls like Cynthia and William have been helping people for decades without asking too many questions. Just one small and concrete step in the good direction is better than an outraged hovering (it’s a typical Aquarius thing : we want to see the society take a radical shift about XYZ right here right now).
Thank you Anya and good luck for all the house stuff (remember to pace yourself, it can quickly become exhausting).
What to do next... for sure. The most important question. I think, really, it's as simple as coming together to do the work Cynthia and William are facilitating. I've often promoted this whole "we all just need to hear each other and have compassion" but what's so hard to cultivate is the space itself. How, logistically, are we really bringing people together? The fact that Cynthia and William provide an actual, tangible space for this, and hold the space masterfully, is so inspiring.
Absolutely loved this episode! These guys truly understand healing imo. Also Cave in the Snow is one of my fav books ever, Tenzin Palmo is one of my heroes
