Whitney returns to the podcast to discuss how paradox, polarity and nuance show up in astrology, and how to best utilize concepts of “good” and “bad” to provoke self-awareness. How can nuance be used to both invite and prevent growth? How can we assess when duality is helpful vs. when it isn’t? Whitney and I provide an overview of concepts such as malefics & benefics, sect, dignities and debilities, aspects, and retrogrades, to discuss what’s both helpful and unhelpful about seeing something as “positive” or “negative". We also discuss the archetype of Mars, and the upcoming Mars retrograde in Gemini. Our course, Retrograde with Intention, returns September 17th, and is a group container to support your growth, awareness and transformation over the course of the upcoming Mars Rx transit.
I’ve been reeling (in a good way) over Mars in Cancer portion, which is my exact placement. I’ve struggled so much with giving myself the proper power, because of exactly what you’re both circumnavigating, but I’ve never been able to put language to it. Also I’m very grateful that this episode prompted me to look at what chart rulers actually are, because as I get older I realize how much more influence my ascendant has on me than I’d first led myself to believe. Same with my moon sign too. I think it’s also really cool how you both use your own charts as jumping off points. Looking back at when I began the practice I recall that this is a very intuitive way to approach conversations about astrology, especially when the conversations involve other people.
I’ve always appreciated your attitude toward astrology and it’s obvious that Whitney has a lot in common with you. I love how she breaks things down, in a soft, calm and serious way (sounds very saturnian to me).
Her choice to focus on the paradox when analyzing a birth chart (I should write paradoxes, I think there’s always an obvious one that overshadows the others) is clearly a smart, profound and above all natural way to help her clients.
My aquarius side was always super obvious for me, not always for the others. This is not surprising, with my Virgo rising with Saturn sitting there.
Silent, serious, wearing dark colors and noticing every detail : that’s my baseline.
And then… My not obvious side at all : Aries Moon.
I was shocked when I discovered my moon sign. I’ve never related to the first sign of the Zodiac, they were like aliens to me.
But… With a little digging and some critical self analysis it made perfect sense.
It’s a blind spot of my psyche but it was always tangible for my partners.
I was literally asked by my girlfriend “Are you sure you’re not an Aries “ just afew months after we moved together (and she’s far from being an expert !).
Clearly, I’m an astronerd. The root of it may be my long lasting fascination with Greek mythology. I cannot imagine my everyday life without it. That being said, I’m also aware that we’re just rediscovering a bunch of concepts and that we are bombarded by unfiltered information at a crazy pace. The archetypes are not fixed in stone (and rightfully so).
So… At the end of the day, I think that it’s important to take with a grain of salt the sudden “Astro Renaissance'' that we’re experiencing AND I also believe that it's very relevant to keep it fun (approved by my Venus in Sage).
