Hi everyone.
Just a quick note to say that despite ending my podcast over a year ago, the book club I started in 2020 is still going strong, and new members are welcome to join!
The structure of our book club is as follows…
A core group of us have agreed (consented?) to what we’re calling a “semi-bondage” format. In previous iterations of the book club, people got a little lazy about showing up to monthly Zoom calls, or chose to opt out if they didn’t like the book. Ultimately it became clear to me that the only way to make a book club work is to have a consistent group of people who are willing to put in the time to show up for the discussions, and read all the books that are chosen, even if they aren’t our first choice. (Sometimes we can learn just as much from what we don’t like as we can from what we do like).
Everyone in the core group gets to vote on what books we end up reading, and gets to take a turn selecting a book.
We meet on the last Tuesday of every month at 4pm MT for a one hour discussion. Most books are read over the course of two months, so for each book, we have two discussions. (Exceptions are made for shorter books).
Our book for January & February is The Cosmic Serpent: DNA and the Origins of Knowledge by Jeremy Narby.
If you’re interested in joining, I will no longer be sending out notifications about the book club via Substack, so the only way to participate is to join our What’sApp chat, which you can do by clicking here.
Questions? Leave them in the comments.
Reading is way more fun when you do it with others! Hope to see some new faces.
I was just about to email you this morning to see whether your book club is still going! 😁
YAY! Thanks so much for the update & wow what an interesting book you chose for Jan/Feb.
I finally have time to read again & time zone wise THANK YOU it's now doable from the land down under (it will be 9:30AM Wednesday morning in South Australia).
Apologies in advance if visually I drop in & out of the January zoom & just do audio from time to time. I will probably be laying on a medical research facility bed that day having tests done for the sake of science (and for the sake of my bank account). It's not hallucinogens this time but hell yes I've been well paid to take them in the past.
Did you know you can fuck with an ECG machine to get a reading of acute heart attack by just using your mind, all the while with a big happy smile on your face?
